2017 Walk to End Epilepsy

Team Audrey Kaller

Welcome to the Team Audrey Kaller page!

Audrey's Story

Audrey is a 18 year-old girl from Pacific Palisades, California and now living in New York City. She is one of 4 children in an otherwise ordinary family. A little more than 5 years ago, and completely out of nowhere, she started having seizures. In case you don’t know, seizures come without warning and in several forms ranging from a unconsciousness coupled with body spasms (tonic-clonic) to temporary moments of a loss of awareness (absence). Audrey’s first seizure occurred in the ocean and thankfully she was rescued by a lifeguard. Her third seizure (a tonic-clonic) occurred in a crowded sanctuary while attending a friend’s bat mitzvah. Imagine being a teenage girl and losing control of your mind and body in front of a large number of people. Welcome to the world of epilepsy.

Audrey spent a long and difficult year filled with missed school, doctor appointments, hospital stays, ambulance rides, medications, the loss of her gorgeous singing voice, fear and struggle. Nevertheless, Audrey persevered and after several years of medication (which she no longer takes!) it appears that her seizures have stopped. She feels strong and in control.

Audrey Took Action

Despite the stigma associated with epilepsy, Audrey responded to her diagnoses by leaping into action. She wanted everyone to know about epilepsy. She became a Junior Ambassador for Children’s Hospital.  She traveled to Washington, D.C. with other teens with epilepsy and successfully lobbied Congress to increase awareness and funding for epilepsy research. She inspired her family and friends and through much effort raised over $300,000 for the cause. Even though she no longer suffers the daily horrors of living with epilepsy, she and her family fight on, using the gift of time that they were granted to help others not so fortunate. She is determined to End Epilepsy AND SO AM I!

Inspired by Werner Hezog Eats His Shoe and the show Good Mythical Morning Show with Rhett + Link, Adam Kaller has accepted the challenge that if he can raise $250,000 for Team Audrey Kaller and the 2017 Walk to End Epilepsy, HE WILL EAT A SHOE!
